Eclipse（エクリプス）は、クロスプラットフォームの[[https://www.eclipse.org/legal/epl-2.0/|オープンソース]]な高機能統合開発環境(IDE)で、Java,C/C++,PHP,Pythonなどに対応しています。名称のEclipseは日食や月食などの天文現象における「蝕」を意味します。Eclipseは1990年代にIBM社で開発されたIDEですが、2001年11月にオープンソース化、2004年02月に結成された非営利組織Eclipse FoundationによってEclipseプロジェクトが運営されています。

本編では、Eclipseのダウンロードを以下の MergeDoc Project から行います。ここで配布されているEclipseは、ダウンロードして起動すれば、すぐに日本語化された Eclipse が利用できます。

=== Eclipseのリリース名 ===
2020-03-06時点

2006年6月にリリースされたEclipse3.2はCallisto(木星の第4衛星カリスト)と呼ばれ、これ以降はEclipseにコードネームが付与されるようになりました。そして、2009年6月、Eclipse3.5のGalileo(ガリレオ)からは頭文字がアルファベット順となるような名称が投票で選ばれようになりましたが、2018年06月のEclipse4.8 Photon(光子)でコードネームは廃止となりました。2018年09月のEclipse4.9からは「Eclipse2018-09」のようにリリース年月でEclipseを呼ぶようになり、四半期ごと（3月,6月,9月,12月と3の倍数の月）にリリースが行われています。
